Homemade Granola

My first (successful) granola!

My husband likes to add granola to his yogurt.  We do not buy granola often, yet this is an opportunity to save some money.  When I was browsing recipes in a cooking magazine, one recipe caught my attention.  Granola!
I actually tried to make granola, but the end result was not what I'd expected to be.  It was burned and not edible.  :-(

Measure oats according to the recipe you like (or want to try).
Mix in nuts (I only added chopped almonds).
Mix sweetener and oil (maple syrup, brown sugar, vanilla, salt and oil shown in this picture).
Mix the dry and wet ingredients.  Spread out the mixture onto a parchment lined baking sheet with rims.   Make sure to press the mixture firmly with a spatula.
Cool the granola before breaking into pieces.  Stir in dried fruit if you wish (I skipped it).
